May was a whirlwind month that began May 3-5 with the Malice Domestic Convention in Bethesda, Maryland. Last year was my first Malice and I was struck then by how funny mystery writers are. I had no idea people who plot murders have stand-up comedy skills! The convention provided informative and inspiring sessions about poisons, crime labs, the challenges of writing several series, and so much more.
I was honored to be on the “They Fight Fires and Detect Liars” panel with Sarah Wisseman, Phillip DePoy, and Kari Lee Townsend that was moderated by the incomparable Doris Ann Norris. (Photo credit: Greg Puhl) Looking forward to attending Malice next year!
FOAL PLAY’s pub date arrived two days later. I had a signing on May 18 at the Bethesda, Maryland Barnes & Noble followed by the official launch party at One More Page Books in Arlington, Virginia on May 23. The launch party (yes, there was wine!) was organized by Eileen, Amber, and Sally at One More Page Books. I’m most grateful to them for hosting the party in their beautiful bookstore and to the friends, family, former students, and teaching colleagues for celebrating with me at these events.
The month ended with unexpected good news for my Western web series: THURSTON has been selected for inclusion in the Marseille Web Fest to be held in France October 11-12 and the Telly Awards named the series a Bronze Winner in the 34th Annual Telly Awards. Paul and I are honored by this recognition and extremely proud of the show’s cast and crew. Looking forward to more adventures this summer!
